Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, June 2, 2018
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: 4 out of 6 or 7 spots were used when I arrived. Wild River Road is closed, so you would have to walk the 5 miles along the road to the camp site. A local was saying the road is not likely to be fixed this summer.

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Very large blowdowns blocking trails. Trail runs along the river, bank under trail is washed out; trail is kinda just hanging there and what is left is very narrow. Lost the trail several times because it was washed out.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: One black dog growled at me while I crossed the bridge to Highwater trail, and the owners must have been on the beach not paying attention to it.
Bugs
Bugs: Swarms of mosquitoes and black flies were successfully held at bay with Permethrin and Picaridin.

Comments
Comments: Trail was mostly dry with a couple muddy spots. Significant blowdowns at about mile 3 from the parking lot. Several areas you could see was washed out from a lot of flooding. Trail was hard to find as a result and I lost it a bunch of times. I would recommend skipping the Highwater trail and walk the Wild River Road from the trailhead to the Wild River Campground instead. I ended up turning back at mile 3 as the blowdowns got so bad.
