Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: OMG. So many blowdowns on South Weeks. The mountain is a complete mess from the saddle between Middle Weeks and South Weeks to the summit of South Weeks. To the person who did some trail work near North Weeks within the past year: thank you!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Aggressive mosquitos at the trailhead replaced by really hungry black flies higher up. Fortunately, a stiff breeze kept the flies away at the summit of South Weeks.

Comments
Comments: The first half of York Pond trail was on/off muddy. York Pond and Kilkenny Ridge trails are both narrow, but we found them easy to follow. No trouble getting to North Weeks. There were a handful of bigger blowdowns to navigate around between North and Middle Weeks. Then.... we got to the base of South Weeks. Holy cow. South Weeks is covered in blowdowns. We didn't even bother trying to stay on the trail (we couldn't see it), whacked up (aiming for the highest point), ate lunch, and whacked back down (aiming for the saddle with periodic compass checks). It's a moderately challenging whack, with a lot of climbing over, crawling under trees, placing feet carefully to avoid holes under the moss. We found and skirted a very small ledge on the way up, pushed through a couple of tiny (barely worth calling them) spruce traps in both directions.

Overall, a really nice hike. Perfect weather, pretty trails, and a fun whack. We saw one person at the York Pond trailhead, no one else all day.

There were some toads, a lot of trillium and an occasional lady's slipper blooming along the trail.
