Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Parts of these trails could use some brushing. Starting at the pond there were several blowdowns along the Kilkenny ridge trail. Some have formed herd paths around them and others are step through, over or unders. Other than that the trails are in pretty good shape.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Seems like a good hike for dogs but limited water sources.
Bugs
Bugs: Most of the time they weren’t too bad but there places where the black flies were pretty awful. Coming back down off Cabot and on top of the Horn were two of the awful spots.

Comments
Comments: Last minute decision to take this route. Last time on this trail was the day before hurricane Irene with Franco. Nice change of pace from the fish hatchery trailhead. I hustled out to beat the predicted rain but didn’t find any rain until near St J on the way home. Lots of moose sign but frogs and toads ruled the day. Dozens of toads and several frogs on the trails along with one brown woods snake. Nice solitary hike meeting only one other hiker who had completed number 45 on Cabot.
