Comments
Comments: Pine Flats, Yellow Jacket and Tri-Town (XC ski) trails all have a similar feel, mellow with a few ups and downs and tons of roots. Smarts Brook trail has great variety with terrain and landscape and never gets too steep - besides some large mud pits and small random areas of erosion, it has good footing for most of its way. Not surprisingly conditions are very different beyond the wilderness boundary but not terrible for a wilderness area, definitely been on others that were harder to follow and navigate. Went all the way to Sandwich Dome summit - the view has grown in a bit since I was last there but is still wonderful, could see all the way from Moosie around to Choucora and everything in between. Slippery rocks and roots in the morning were mostly dry by the afternoon. Great weather and besides one trail runner in the first half hour we had complete solitude all day, always a bonus - thanks Hannah for a great day.
