Ok, so there's no direct route to the Mahoosuc tr. as Hogan rd has been washed out in the middle. The most direct route seems to be coming across the footbridge from Rt. 16. Once across, you will see a sign that says AMC TRAIL with an arrow pointing left. If you go up the dirt/sandy path directly to the left of that sign, it'll pop you out on the rd above you. Go right and follow the AMC TRAIL signs across the canal. On the opposite side of the bridge over the canal to your right is a small path through the woods. Take this and you'll come out on Hogan rd. Go right and directly across from the DANGER sign on your left (near the canal house structure)is the beginning of the Mahoosuc tr. It's about a mile total to get to the trailhead. The trail itself isn't super well maintained and there's quite a few blowdowns, but it's easy to follow and you can get around everything. The ledges offer a glorious view though there's not much from the summit. There's nothing to mark the summit, so I went all the way to the AT to make certain I hit it. The bugs were out in force and the spiderwebs were gnarly, but not a bad hike! |
