Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: After some rain the gage on the East Branch in Lincoln was around 250 cfps when we did the two large crossings on Lincoln Brook Tr. early evening. With a quick scan it didn't look like there was a crossing where feet would stay dry. As our feet were already soaked we just walked through (12" at most). Throwing this in here as possible reference for those heading to Owl's Head so one might have a better idea as to what to expect and plan for.

Lost and Found
Lost and Found: The blue Gregory pack which had been out there since at least Tuesday (6-19) was picked back up by the woman today (6-23) who left it there. Heard part of the story from caretaker at 13 Falls and a USFS employee (I believe). Know there were rumours, talk about it on FB so thought I'd throw it in here. All is well.

Comments
Comments: Adventurous day; the hike as well as the ride over and back to Vt.. Although some reports have mentioned Black Pond BW being easily followed; we may have just missed the start of an obvious path from end of Black Pond Tr.. Ended up hiking through very open woods up high enough to stay dry but close enough to hear brook eventually heading down to spot on Fisherman's Whack a few minutes before Lincoln Brook Tr. jct.. Never really on a beaten path until then. Heading out the path looks obvious but we chose main trail because Black Pond would've been harder to hit if we lost trail in dark. Took the Brutus BW down as it started raining shortly before summiting to avoid wet descent on steep slide. We stayed mostly on a beaten path here much on account of Emerel's trail skills and knowledge of the area from previous hikes. We figured it saved us both time and a difficult descent on wet trail. Bottom line--bushwhack only if comfortable with it. Congrats to hiker finishing 48 as well as others getting close. Lots of nice conversation had on another Owl adventure.
