| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
PLENTY of roadside parking along Route 302 at the trailhead. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Significant |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
The suspension bridge is still "closed". Even though water was low, there really wasn't any safe place to cross. Other water crossings were all rock-hoppable. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
No surprises - sign at trailhead says storm in late 2017 (the October storm) has impacted trail. Route finding was not a problem in general except at the water crossings. ALSO, severe erosion from the storm (and past storms) means you are walking on the edge of the erosion - very scary in some spots high above the river but certainly stable. However, if you're not paying attention, you could have a mis-hap!!!! I had to keep reminding myself to stay focused. Blowdowns/washouts/stepovers of course were continuous the entire trip. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
why not - MANY water options |
| Bugs: |
kept buzzing around my eyes but I didn't use DEET or bug stuff. Nothing really biting - just really vexing and annoying. |
| Lost and Found: |
small bottle with sugar or salt - I put it at the trailhead |

| Comments: |
My favorite route to Isolation but getting very tedious. The washouts have really changed things. Takes much longer than you'd think. No real fast sections any more. Took me 10 hours for 17 miles (not including jumping in the swimming hole in the Dry River - VERY refreshing :) ). Only saw 6 people all day - those were on the Davis Path/Isolation. Excellent views and still a very fun hike. |
