Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, July 15, 2018
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of room at Livermore lot in Waterville.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Livermore crossings are bridged. Tripyramid loop trails were rock hoppable.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Very brushy on the approach to the north slide. One section between North and Middle has some blowdowns blocking it, which has resulted in a more direct herd path being formed, and the original trail turning into a bathroom. Cut out a blowdown on the way up Middle. Quite a few stepover/hurdle over blowdowns on the flats below South. Lots of erosion on the pitches and between the peaks. Fresh blazing needed.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Would not recommend subjecting dogs to the slides, both for the well being of the dog and for the safety of hikers downhill.
Bugs
Bugs: Occasional deer flies on Livermore Road. Mosquitoes near the end of the Mt. Tripyramid Trail south side.

Comments
Comments: Livermore Road was dry and smooth sailing with assorted flowers and berries (strawberries, raspberries).

Lower two thirds of the North Slide was slippery from a little lingering moisture, as well as the slippery moss that has reformed since Hurricane Irene.

Some tricky stuff between the peaks from erosion resulting in slippery exposed rock with herd paths and trail creep resulting.

Upper entrance to South Slide is terrible due to advanced erosion and slippery slabs. Slide itself was pretty loose due to general dryness.

Warm and humid with some haze, but on the whole we lucked out with the weather - summits were in the clear and we never had a drop of rain. Actually quite sunny. Not overly busy on this side either, at least for 4K standards.
