Trail slightly wet in spots, easily navigated. Just some squishy mud, I did it all in sneakers. I basically did an out an back over West Quarry Mountain to Mount Rand, and tacked on East Quarry Mountain because it was right there.
Ferns and small brush overhang into the trail in spots. I found you just have to wade thru some of these short brushy areas and check for ticks when you pop out. I didn't see any ticks today, but I know they frequent this area.
I liked this trail. Roberts put together a challenging trail, that's exciting the same way trails in the 4000 footers that have scrambles on them are exciting. Coming back up West Quarry on Dave's ledges, I used some muscles I hadn't used in awhile.
I need to come back here after the leaves are off. There are lots of tempting bits and pieces of views of a wide ridge you're on, that's kind of got that knights of the round table thing going on. |
