Comments
Comments: This is my favorite approach to Bear Mtn - I love the mossy footbed east of Bear!!!! Good views from the outlook. Nice views of Cardigan from the power lines.

met the guy who maintains the Welton Falls Trail - North at the trailhead. He said he would do a bit more maintenance in the fall. That end of the trail can get a bit confusing a bit above the log landing - I missed the turn for the trail and accidentally just took logging roads and the old road/snowmobile trail up to the power lines. Power line area: Elwell Trail is a bit hard to find - I missed 1 turn but found it later; Welton Falls Trail crossing of the power lines is very difficult - it is very overgrown with nasty stuff including prickers - I got very scratched up and finally gave up and took the power line access road. Elwell Trail - the route west from the power line to Bear Mtn is easy to follow if you're familiar with the area. I'm not sure someone not familiar would be comfortable. On the way back, I went a bit east of the junction with Welton Falls Trail (north) as well along the high ground in the logged area - nice views but trail is VERY brushy - if I didn't already know the area somewhat I might have gotten lost - some blazes are not visible on that part of the Elwell Trail.
