Finally got up to West Osceola, as it's spent a long time on my personal to-do list. Hiked quickly up to the height of land on East Pond Trail, then headed in to the woods. Found decent going by finding and following the ridge as it curved southeasterly toward the summit, with a few thicker areas, but mostly open woods. Herd paths led us directly to the jar and beyond to Peggy's Perch and its unique views. On the return, we dropped too far off the ridge and ended up in thick undergrowth and junk woods, until we climbed out of it, but never did find our line from the ascent, returning to the trail just north of where we'd left it. For redlining purposes, we took the side trip out to Little East Pond, then out to the trailhead from there. No people = a great day! |
