Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I had originally planned on hiking in from the driveable end of Binney Hill Road in New Ipswich, but this approach is no longer feasible due to the road being under a couple feet of water thanks to beavers just past the last house. The whole area here is impassable. There is also no longer any parking near the house. So I drove around and hiked in from the Mt. Watatic parking area on Rt. 119 in Ashburnham, MA.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few blowdowns on State Line Trail. Nice new bog bridges at the start of the Wapack in MA, where the beaver pond here has often flooded the trail. A welcome addition! The logged section along the Wapack near Binney Hill Road now has gates and boulders at either end to prevent ATV / mountain bike traffic (the area is being revegetated). Boulders have also been placed where Wapack Trail leaves Binney Hill Road headed north for Pratt Mountain. Both ends of FRT are also bouldered in.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Sure, but check for ticks after. FRT is very grassy.
Bugs
Bugs: Mosquitoes were pesky.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: This was a hike to check out the new Frank Robbins Trail, opened earlier this year, which makes an out of the way loop to bypass a section of the Wapack Trail which has been affected by logging in recent years. Ironically, this trail follows old, grassy logging roads the entire way. The footbed is not completely evident in places due to lack of traffic, but the brushy corridor is wide and the route is blazed in white. No views aside from a restricted peek over to Pratt Mountain.

All trails were mainly dry. Just a few spots of mud on State Line Trail and Binney Hill Road.
