I found a book from the Library of Congress website that identified Skatutakee in Abnaki as, "a fire swept by here." I thought that was cool.
Nice map can be found at the Harris Center for Conservation Education website.
Trail climbed up among interesting rocks and open woods, to a somewhat open summit that was a mix of small growth and bald ledge rock. As this was our third peak, and we were dripping from the heat... we elected to skip the loop over to Thumb, and instead, did this as an out and back hike. 3nd NH500 today with Bill C., Schorman and Lady Di. |
