Comments: I used both a phone app GPS and a compass. We followed the old road for about a quarter mile passing a gravel hill on the left. Just past a bend to the right in the road was a small cairn marking the beginning of the bushwhack. The lower section was pretty easy to follow, well traveled and wide in places. It soon transitioned to dense samplings but a decent path was cut through them. Part of the herd path follows a drainage ditch. However, when entering the woods the herd path got more challenging to follow. Widely separated flagging tape helped but in a few places we had to backtrack and choose a different route. Using a compass bearing of 220 to 224 helped as well as the GPS app which pinpointed our exact location relative to a previous published track. We pushed thru a short section of dense balsa pines. Approaching the Nubble seems to be the most difficult section to follow. It was a steady uphill from almost the start. The bushwhack part was about 1.7 miles to the summit with a little over 2000 feet of elevation gain. There were side paths on both the Nubble and PATN to nice 180 degree views. Many blowdowns to navigate over and around when approaching the PATN summit. We thought coming down would be easy but in fact it was harder – got lost about 3 times and went back to using compass and GPS. Took about 2.5 hours to reach the summit and 1.5 hours to return.
