Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, November 15, 2009
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Reel Brook Road easy to miss. The last 75 feet of the access to the parking lot is real rocky, not great for low ground clearance vehicles.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud, Standing/Running Water on Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Multiple water crossing on Reel Brook trail. There is at least two crossings that can be skipped by bushwhacking. The majority of the crossings are probably not significant during dry weather
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The AT could use a few puncheons or stone steps in spots. One big yellow birch blow down on Reel Brook.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Probably a fun doggy hike with all the water crossings, but the boggy pond 15 minutes from the summit could be an attractive nusiance for a dog intent of wallowing in the mud

Comments
Comments: For many, the hike feels longer than it is on the AT section as there are lots of PUDs (pointless ups and downs). I thought Reel Brook trail was a nicely graded walk in the woods in and of itself, but no views. The AT section is rougher than normallly associated with the AT, reminded me of the Mahoosucs with lots of occasional rocky ledges and boulder hops.
