Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Success Pond Rd is rocky and rutty but doable with a car. SUV of Truck would be better. Limited parking on Carlo Col Trail Rd but I believe more up SPR a bit. Parking on Hogan Rd has room for about 5 cars.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant, Standing/Running Water on Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All were fairly easy rock hopping but there were a number of them
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There are a number of blowdowns. Erosion was a problem in a number of spots. Mud (drainage) was also in a number of spots. MUD is very prevalent!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: This is tough hiking and I feel it would be tough on a dog. The Mahoosucs have lots of ledges and rocks. On the plus side there is plenty of water!
Bugs
Bugs: Not bad at all. Mosquitos at night at Gentian Pond but not horrible and some on day two coming out Centennial trail near the bottom.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Lost a bandanna but it was on our spotted car when we returned, put there by an injured section hiker that took our advice and bailed. Found it on her way out. :)

Comments
Comments: Two days on the AT. Came from Carlo Col to Gorham. Stayed at Gentian Pond. Shelter is possibly reopened by friday (7/15). The reputation of the Mahoosucs is well earned! Mud and wet trail and rocks were the order of the day(s)! Up and down, slabs, scrambles. That being said it is a beautiful area. The 4 ponds we passed were awesome. Saw lots of thru-hikers that were very excited to be entering ME or being within 1 day of the final state. Most had started in March.

Mt. Hayes was the dryest part of the hike. Centennial trail was in good shape.
