| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Both the Unknown Trail and York Pond lots in good condition. Both lots full with vehicles on such a nice day. York Pond road in good condition. Sign states that the fish hatchery gate is closed at 4:00PM. I passed through the gate at 3:50PM. Based on past experience and other hiker observations there is likely to be some leeway on the gate closure timing. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Standing/Running Water on Trail |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Water running high. Crossings on rocks for some streams. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Some stream water from brook draining Bunnell Notch diverted on to Bunnell Notch Trail for about 100 feet. Easy to walk alongside. Some minor flowage on Bunnell Notch trail in other sections. Mud near the top of Bunnell Notch.
Several trees down across the Kilkenny Trail between the cabin and the summit of Mt Cabot. By-pass paths starting to develop around these downed trees. Some of the trees are large in girth.
Three wind falls on the Kilkenny Trail between Mt Cabot and The Bulge are easy to duck under or climb over.
The side trail circumventing the large rocks on approach to The Horn is now more evident than the original trail.
Many wet and muddy areas throughout the hike.
The Unknown Pond Trail had many sections with lots of ferns and brush which is typical of this trail due to lots of cleared areas in the woods allowing for the penetration of sunlight. |

| Comments: |
The loop up Bunnell Notch over the Kilkenny Range and down Unknown Pond is so much better than the old Mt Cabot Trail. The views off The Horn were magnificent. Unknown Pond was so beautiful. I was alone at both of these spots. Met with many other hikers earlier in the hike including a seven year old girl from Warren NH who was hiking her 38th four thousand footer this year. |
