nancy pond trail in good shape. some washout damage from irene. mt. bemis trail was easy to find and follow to the remains of the firetower. for an unmaintained trail it is quite nice most of the way with one overgrown section near the first knoll. there is some blowdown all along the route, but really not too bad given the maintenance status of the trail the bushwack from the firetower site to the actual high point is thick, but short and the high point is quite clear.
neat hike. some great views from the meadow below the summit of bemis and lots of interesting things (like utility poles, wires, etc.) to look for in the woods along the way. the tower must have been impressive in its day. thanks to mark for a nice hike. |
