Mud Pond is located about 0.8 mile NNW of Mt. Pemigewasset. It is an easy bushwhack through predominately open hardwoods, although there are some occasional patches of hobble-bush and thick conifers. The bushwhack was launched from the Mt. Pemigewasset Trail at a point about 0.2 mile from the summit of Mt. Pemigewasset. When conditions are favorable, there is a terrific view of the northern end of the Franconia Range from the SW end of Mud Pond.
Following the bushwhack to Mud Pond, we rejoined the Mt. Pemigewasset Trail and trekked the final 0.2 mile to the summit.
There were no blowdowns, and the entire length of the Mt. Pemigewasset Trail was in good shape. There was a light covering of snow on the trail, and there were icy spots. Light traction (microspikes, etc) would've been helpful, but not absolutely necessary for doing this hike on this particular day.
Some photos taken during this trek are at my BLOG (see link below). |
