| Comments: |
Minimal snow at the begining of the hike. Snow depths on the ridge from Mt Starr King and Mt Waumbek was considerably higher (6+ inches). All snow was powdery with ice beneath. The microspikes provided adequate traction on ascent and descent with only minor slippages. The snow was broken out to the viewpoint off the Kilkenny Trail just beyond the summit of Mt Waumbek (no views today).
I ventured a bit further on the Kilkenny Trail which had seen no recent activity. Snowshoes would have worked well on the high ridgeline (especially on the Kilkenny Trail) but would have been more difficult in lower elevations. The spring by the side of the trail was flowing. Met five other hikers today with one achieving his 48th 4,000' peak today. |
