Nancy Pond Trail has a pretty solid footbed. Saw bareboots, 'spikes and snowshoes...we chose 'spikes. At Nancy Pond, the trail is blown in for a bit, and everyone is detouring along the pond ice. Ditto for Norcross.
The bushwhack was untouched after the split. One person did not have snowshoes, so turned around quickly on the traversing portion with another person accompanying, because of the breakable crust over ~18 inches of snow. We remaining two continued to the slide, and up to the top of it on the herdpath alongside it. The slide itself was one completely smooth slope with a rock hard crust that was quite difficult to break. Crampons would have been the choice for the slide. The herdpath had a firm but breakable crust over a thinner base. Easy going. Due to our very late start time and carpooling arrangements, we turned around at the top of the slide. |
