Comments
Comments: The trails were hard packed snow with some minor icy areas. There was a small stretch of mud on the Lincoln Brook Trail. Just after passing Black Pond follow the left snowshoe track at the junction (uphill option). The Black Pond bushwhack ends at the Lincoln Brook Trail at the west bank of the first Lincoln Brook crossing. The fisherman's bushwhack trail that parallels Lincoln Brook had not been used of late. The bushwhack trail up Owl's Head is an uphill right off the Lincoln Brook Trail some distance after the upper crossing of Lincoln Brook (it is obvious). Some sections of the bushwhack up Owl's Head are steep and requires some type of traction. I used the microspikes which proved adequate although more aggressive traction may have been better. The bushwhack meets the Owl's Head Path below the ridgeline.

I ended up carrying the snowshoes today. A total of 13 hikers and one dog paid a visit to the Owl's Head summit on this fine winter's day.
