Comments
Comments: Started out at 10am with snowshoes and trekking poles on the Kinsman Ridge Trail North. I thought this would be a fast hike to the summit. I didn't think the trail was well consolidated. I did not posthole very much on the accent, but we did on the way down. I agree with the last hiker's report on the trail. When the trail meets up with the Kinsman Glade Ski Trail, it is much harder to follow with more soft spots. At certain points, it could be easy for hikers to get sidetracked as we did. Since it was early, and we had time on our side, we decided to explore out onto a side trail off the glades, leading us out to an outlook of Rt 93 and the Franconia Ridge. At this point we had lost the trail, but we had the summit tower in our sights. We managed to follow a ski trail back up to the summit, up onto the ridgeline. Eventually we reached the summit at 12:30pm. It was such a beautiful day on the mountain we wanted to just take in the beauty of our surroundings. Again, I agree with the last hiker, the Kinsman Ridge Trail above treeline is still unconsolidated and difficult to follow, even on the decent.
