| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
As others have reported Sandwich Notch Road - the part not maintained in winter - is rough. Cars with low clearance should be extremely careful. SUVs, Subarus, Volvo XC and similar should not have problems but caution is advised.
There are a couple of good parking spots on the right hand side of the road 50 yards beyond the trailhead. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
All easy |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Half a dozen blowdowns - all easy to deal with. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Cinilla managed it all on her own - except for one steep rock scramble approx. 15 minutes before Black, Mtn. She needed help both up and down and few dogs will be able to handle this section on their own. Met another hiker with a dog who had planned to descent via Black Mtn. Pond Trail. They turned around. See also Becca Munroe's report.
Plenty of water at the lower section but after the ascent begins in earnest there is only puddles. |
|
| Bugs: |
They are out now and were beginning to be a nuisance in the afternoon as it warmed up. |
