Comments
Comments: We knew that this accent of the Scar Ridge was going to be difficult. No disappointment there. Probably the toughest bushwhack I have done so far. Vose Spur was much easier.

With the waters of Little East Pond flooding the shore the path around the pond is under water so our bushwhack started where we first reached the pond. The spruce woods are thick and only get thicker. We were able to get visual bearings for direction at the pond but due to the thick woods and steepness of the climb to the ridge it is hard to see anything but trees. A compass and map will work for the experienced with GPS for assurance. We carried both.

Most every step was a slow push thru with lots of blowdowns. Had to backup several times and try a slightly different line. Came across a rock face on the way to the col. Most of it too steep to climb but at one point Nick - the rock climbing dog - found a way up the face and we decided to follow. Moss and water made some places slippery but we were able to scale the face and move on. Great views of Little East Pond,Tecumseh and Sandwich Dome from here. The only views we had all day. 3.25mi and 3h25m car to Scar Ridge canister. Herd path from here to the Scar summit with some blowdowns but not hard to follow. .25mi 20 mins. to the Scar canister.

Decent is just as slow as the accent. Many places it's impossible to see your feet and the next step may be a huge drop. Much care needed. Some times we just followed Nick. Vision was probably better close to the ground.

Total trip 7mi 7.5hrs.
