Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Bridged or rock-hoppable.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Two step-over blowdowns on Davis Path.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: This is an excellent hike for dogs with the caveat that water could be a concern. Right now, after all the recent rain, there's enough tiny running streams and rain pockets so it's not a big worry. Even so, there's virtually no water on the Davis Path from a tiny stream at 1,500 feet to a rain pocket at 2,700 feet. Carry extra.

There's enough mud, too, right now to keep paws cool despite the ledges.
Bugs
Bugs: Not a problem until late morning, and then the black flies were an issue whenever we stopped. A few mosquitoes, too.

Comments
Comments: I'd never hiked the lower portion of the Davis Path, and now I wonder why I didn't do it years ago. Man oh man, what a sweet route. The uphill grade is steep but steady up to the ledges, the stair and waterbar work is excellent, there are some switchbacks for softies from California like me, and the views from the ledges below Mt. Crawford and on Mt. Resolution are stellar -- what's not to like? In my assessment, at least, this portion of the Davis Path ranks with the Edmunds Path for excellent trail design. Thanks to Kim Nilsen for inspiring today's hike with a post on the Cohos Trail FB page about Mt. Resolution.

Clintonia, white lady's slipper, bunchberry, and rhodora, among other flowers, are all in bloom right now along the trail.

What a treat to be flagged down by TimC on 302 and then to meet again at the trailhead (he was trail-running the Davis Path to Iso and back). Josie and Polly do love their Uncle Tim. Also nice to meet Steve and Ursula on the ledges above the junction with the spur to Mt. Crawford. Lots of people headed to Mt. Crawford today.

This was Josie's third off-leash training hike, and she was a champ. She's ready for bigger mountains and longer hikes.

This was one of the nicest hiking days of the warm season so far -- and like an idiot I forgot my camera at home. Damn. So you'll have to take my word for it: the views today were incredible. Well, you probably saw them yourself!
