Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The two that aren't bridged are easily rock-hopped right now.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Two step-over blowdowns on the Davis Path, and one annoying crawl-under blowdown in the saddle just below the summit of Mt. Resolution.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: This is a fine hike for dogs, with the usual caveat to carry extra water. The ledges on Crawford and Resolution could be hot on paws. The section of the Davis Path from Stairs Col to where the summit spur takes off the main trail includes three rock scrambles that many dogs will find difficult. Polly needed a boost up two of them and Josie had to reconsider her routes a couple of times. Also, I strongly urge that dogs be leashed at the summit of Stairs Mountain. The cliff-edge is very abrupt just after the tent sites and a fall would be fatal. Same goes for the outlook that's just off the Davis Path about a tenth of a mile before the summit spur. A leash is recommended again on the summit of Crawford with its cliff faces.
Bugs
Bugs: Not an issue for the most part. Some black flies on the summit of Crawford and on the hike out in the afternoon.

Comments
Comments: A return to the hike we did last weekend, this time to get to the top of all three peaks clustered in the Stairs Col area. No changes to report in the trail conditions, although there's a little less water and mud now.

An AMC trail crew is doing some nice stone work on a section of the Davis Path around the 1,200-1,300 foot level.

A beautiful day out with incredible views in all directions. Amazingly, we saw just six people the whole hike.
