Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Thursday, July 5, 2012
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of room in lot off Duguay/Passaconaway Road.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: One minor one, the other bridged.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail is very hard to follow. Up to South I know from descending in the dark a few times, but from South to Red Ridge I didn't have much of a basis for. Very hard to follow in places due to faded or no blazes, lack of cairns, and plenty of herd paths. F&G would be hard pressed to charge someone for getting lost up here, as the WMNF really needs to relax blazing restrictions and do something pronto on this popular ridge. Otherwise, one stepover blowdown down low, a few between Middle and Red Ridge, and brushing needed between Middle and Red Ridge.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Not much water.
Bugs
Bugs: A few mosquitoes and the occasional deer fly, but generally not bad, perhaps courtesy the wind.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found:

Comments
Comments: Trail was generally dry. Lots of blueberries in bloom, slowing hiking speed.

Good idea to have a general sense of where the trail goes, as its very easy to wander off it onto herd paths due to a lack of markings.
