Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Iron Mtn trail's footbed is also easily followed, with small rock piles past the peak for both the mine spur and the ledges. There are extra cairns on the peak and at the mining site that don't mark any trail. Iron Mtn does have some badly eroded sections but they aren't a problem for hikers. The road to Iron Mtn parking was in good shape, narrow & steep at the top but in better condition than my gravel road. Green Hill Rd was newly paved.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Dry trails; bring water. In between the peaks Pepper had a wonderfully long dip at the Winneweta Falls trail. Easy dog trails both. We saw one happy dog on Iron Mtn and in the fields two older dogs (13 & 16 yrs old!) that were enjoying the shade having turned back.

Comments
Comments: Years ago an attempted hike of iron Mtn failed as I couldn't get my car up the road, and after walking up it late in the day I inexplicably couldn't find the trail. With Trish's report and additional road info (thanks!), we went for it and Eagle Mtn and other red linings. Limited views from Eagle Mtn; but Iron Mtn's fields and ledges have great vistas. The mine section was underwhelming although Pepper longingly looked down into the deep pool before I hurried him along.
