Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: There is a locked gate a mile before the South pond trailhead which is open between 10AM and 8PM. I was there early and walked in. The caretaker gave me a golf cart ride on my return from the pond. Never imagined I would finish a hike that way. It is interesting that the gate does not show up on the trail maps, nor is it mentioned in the AMC guide.

Comments
Comments: An easy walk to the Ledge with nice views. The air was hot, hazy and still. Contrast that with the Hopyard, which was wet rocks, deep moss and vertical cliffs. Spooky and beautiful. The temperature in there drops quite suddenly by 10 or 15 degrees. It was like an air conditioned room. At the "END OF TRAIL" sign there is no steep section ending at a cascade, as the AMC guide says. Nothing of the sort. Nor is there any indication of a herd path continuing further.
