Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We spotted a car on Plain Road aka Austin Farm Road (according to the NS Trail Guidebook). Parking for several cars there by Falls River bridge. For some reason a lot of the roads in this part of Rhode Island seem to have 2 or 3 different names (and no street signs anyway). Keep this in mind when googling directions to various trailheads or access points. We parked a car and started hiking on Rt 14 (Plainfield Pike). There is room to park a number of cars on the shoulder, as long as you don't mind some picker bushes on the passenger side.

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A couple of blowdowns on the woods trail between Nicholas Road and Newport Road. We ran into a fellow with pruners there, but he didn't have a saw, which would be required to remove the worst of the blowdowns. One has turned into a walkaround. Muddy spots in the area of the former Pine Top Ski Area, as the book accurately describes.

Comments
Comments: 4th section of our hike of the North-South Trail. About 11 miles from Rt 14 to Plain Road (Austin Farm Road in the book). Real nice, especially along the river from Stepstone Falls south. The Guidebook describes the trail S to N and we are doing it from N to S so we have to read the book and maps backwards; sometimes a challenge. Fortunately, the blue blazing is fairly abundant and we had no problems. Thanks to Snapsquatch, DM Walking, and the Glass Ballerina for a nice hike.
