Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: n/a
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Easy to follow, well-signed at all junctions and blazed in blue. A bit eroded in places, definitely one of the rougher hikes in VT but still fine.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The preservation requests all dogs to be either on leash or under voice control at all times, which ought to be obeyed anywhere in public... that said, nothing difficult for dogs here though not much natural water. The 10-pound poodle with us did fine.
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies around whenever we stopped, especially on the upper half of the mountain. They were quite hungry!

Comments
Comments: Hike 2 of 2 with the AMCers on this day. Might as well do the highest elevation gain direct hike in VT right? Yea... This one is steep most of the way, about 2700ft of vertical in less than 3 miles. And since we started this at 1:20, it was HOT and humid. A rough time ascending but we all made it up to the summit visitor's center. Good views to the North and the South though very hazy today. Not much wind to keep the black flies at bay.

A largish building up top plus it is a mountain with a road to the summit, so not one of my favorites, but a good hike nonetheless. A tough way to end the day, but a great group that kept the conversation interesting and fun. This closed out Vermont on my NEHH #90, on to Maine!
