Comments
Comments: Wore snowshoes car to car. Trail was packed (but soft) to Pico ski trails. When the trail ducks back into woods, we found unbroken powder (about 10-14") to Pico Camp and up to Pico Peak. Long trail to Bucklin junction had seen no recent traffic and we had excellent snowshoeing in 10-14" fresh powder for first mile and a half or so. Last mile up to Bucklin Trail junction had deeper powder - perhaps 2 feet. Open woods and recent snowfall made the trail difficult to find through here and we lost the trail many times - especially when many ski tracks came in as we got closer to Killington. From Bucklin Trail junction to summit, snowboard/ski tracks had packed trail. Final steep pitch to summit was still snowy, not icy, so manageable with snowshoes that have aggressive traction. A group of 5 came after us, and with our group's out-n-back, the trail is pretty well-packed, but still too soft for bareboots.

Today's hike exceeded expectations! Beautiful woods, lots of fresh powder, gorgeous views and a great day out with friends. Thanks, Andrew and Emily.
