Comments
Comments: While the first section up to the road that leads to the old quarry is dry, from then on it is more or less a continuous sheet of ice. Once above the quarry, in the section with the hemlocks and spruce woods, the trail has lots of ice but one can by-pass it as the ice seems to be confined to the trail only. I wore Hillsounds that are a bit more aggressive than just the microspikes and I was able to do just fine. On the way down I just made sure I stomped hard on the heels to prevent any slipping. The few hikers I met all wore the microspikes but they had trouble going down the trail. One hiker that came up the Windsor trail also remarked on the icy conditions there. On the descent full crampons might be the better choice.
