Going up Laura was smooth but steep. No problems with slipping, most of the ice was covered by crunchy snow and made great footing.I used my new Tubbs VRT snowshoes, they were amazing. The crampons helped in a couple steep icy areas. I saw old boot tracks going up that looked like they made alot of postholes. Once up on the ridge the snow drifts were impressive in size and scope. The drifts were hard packed so walking on them felt secure going up and fun going down. The summit trail (LT north) was obscured but it was easy to walk on the drifts and occasional exposed rock to the chin. Coming down Sunset was a breeze, the snow was ideal for snowshoeing and walking on and through the drifts (with occasional exposed rock) continued until I was off the ridge. Rest of the trail was smooth covered in hard snow which made footing easy. What a great day! |
