| Comments: |
Fairly well packed up to the Dean Trail split, but monorail is rotting. Past Dean, Monroe gets very soft, barely tracked, with several spots of deep slush under wet snow. Shortly before the 4-way w/ Alpine there are some significant drifts of thigh-deep powder. Final pitch on Long Trail South is rough going w/ mashed potato snow. Icy patches and drifts on peak, trail very hard to find/follow. Crossed to peak in snow shoes -- ice isn't bad enough to require spikes. Zero visibility and gale force winds; didn't want to risk continuing past peak to try to find the Alpine Trail for descent, so turned around and went back down Long Trail/Monroe. |
