 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We missed the parking area for the Bolton Pond Trail on our first pass, but quickly realized our mistake. It is just a pullout. Sign in the woods is a bit obscure at first. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Lots of small, wet ones, some bridged, some not. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There is still plenty of snow on the hiking trails. It is well packed, crusty/slippery on top, softening in the afternoon, especially on the south side of the mountain. In many places a thin coating of snow covers ice, but it's not hard to negotiate. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
We met 8 four-legged friends, all enjoying their experiences. |

 | Comments: |
We started out barebooting which is fine in some areas. Just past Balance Rock I donned my microspikes and my friend used low-price studded light traction, which worked out just fine. I had emailed the DCR, and received a reply which I interpreted to mean that all hiking trails are available during skiing season, with caution at the ski trail crossings on the Old Indian Trail. A nice man from the ski patrol told us we had been misinformed; ski trails are off limits to hikers, but he let us pass anyway. Markings in that area become confusing but we found our way by continuing uphill. The summit had great views! If the Semuhenna Trail hadn't been tracked, it would have been hard to follow in places. |
