Today’s adventure brought us to Newburyport, Ma to explore an abandoned section of RT 95/Interstate 95. It was constructed as part of the Relocated Rt 1. In 1956 it became part of I-95. It became abandoned after the highway was realigned in the 1970’s. The area is now open to the public for recreational purposes. The Little River Nature Trail goes through the wooded areas and yes there are Geocaches in the area also. The trails are well marked and easy to follow. This is a great place to go with the family and explore a piece of I-95 history. The abandoned section of the highway in 1.1 miles one way, plus there are trails. We didn't get to all the trails, but we intend to revisit this area again some day.
We did post a video for anyone interested, just follow the link... |
