Mixed bag of condtions today. Parts of the beginning and end of the M-M trail to Mt. Norwottock were snow free (although sometimes wet/muddy), but the middle sections had packed down spring snow, with a bit of frozen granular. As for the M-M Trail to Bare Mountain, the lower half was mostly snow covered, but the upper half was probably 90% snow free. Regardless, I'd recommend at least bringing light traction for either mountain, since there are steep snow-covered sections.
This was my first dabble in the Holyoke Range, and I was pleased. Good views from both Norwottock and Bare Mountain, and it also felt nice to not have to walk through feet of snow. |
