Date of Hike: Sunday, November 15, 2009
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked at P. Town Forest fields, off Mattakeesett St. Tons of parking.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud, Standing/Running Water on Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: 12-foot wide irrigation channel running NE from Indian Head Pond, just north of P. Town Forest on the "proposed trail." Follow it east to where it bends and narrows - easy crossing on a log.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The BCT blazes are admirably unvandalized for this stretch. No blazes on the "proposed trail," of course, but I liked it better - less road-walking.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: A barking mutt, unleashed, briefly stymied me at the head of the driveway on Center St. (Mile 2.44 on Map 13). He turned out to be a craven cur, though, retreating when I approached.

Comments
Comments: From P. Town Forest lot, I took the proposed trail north through the forest to teh bogs east of Camp Kiwanee in Hanson, then back to junction with official Trail at south end of Great Sandy Bottom Pond. Then on to Veterans Memorial Forest on Rte. 27, where I hike last week. I returned by the official Trail, to the junction of Maquan and Mattakeesett, then south on the latter back to my car. C. 11 miles, roundtrip. Tubbs Meadow Preserve is a gem - much waterfowl including a brace of swans (but couldn't get a clear shot with camera).

Generally wet, after Sat. deluge, but thick mud and puddles all avoidable.
