Made a quick hike to the summit of Wachusett while others in my party were skiing for the afternoon. From the ski area parking lot, took Balance Rock Tr to Old Indian Tr, to West Side, back again on Old Indian Tr to the summit. Was mostly dry with some muddy areas, then gained some icy sections towards the summit. On the final push up Old Indian Tr to the summit, some of the steeper rocky sections were very icy and I donned my micro's. Others who were ascending/descending mostly bushwhacked alongside the trail to avoid the ice, although I did see a number of other people with micros as well. All in all a pleasant, relatively uneventful way to pass ~2 hrs. Was socked in at the summit unfortunately. Some snow flurries as I descended, they may have gotten 1/8" of natural snow. |
