Trails: Bay Circuit Trail - Tewksbury Gap
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, November 21, 2009
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked at the Capt. J. A. Ogonowski Model Flying Field on Pinnacle St. in Tewksbury (near the Andover line). All the aviators seemed to have arrived by the time I got back, but there were still spaces available.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud, Standing/Running Water on Trail

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Beavers have flooded a 30-foot section just north of East St. I detoured a half-mile to the east on my way out, but removed shoes and socks on return and waded it. Only knee-deep but COLD!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The Proposed Trail section for "Heath Brook Well Fields" isn't there anymore. From the SW end of the Villa Roma townhouses, go through the doorway in the fence to Davis Rd., then Foster Rd. to Kevin St. You can't access the Indian Springs section from Term Terrace, as Map 5A shows, unless you cross through a backyard. Take the trail from the end of Kevin St. (which is shown on the Map).

Comments
Comments: I got as far as the Tewksbury-Billerica line, at a power-line right-of-way at the end of Donna Drive. I have to get from there to Middlesex Community College in Bedford (just south of the Bedford-Billerica line) to complete this gap.

Tewksbury police apprehended some kids who were joy-riding what I assume was a stolen sedan around some rough ATV roads between Pinnacle St. and East St. I found the vehicle, with blown-out tires and the engine still warm, in a gully right on the BCT, towards the end of my hike. You don't encounter that kind of excitement in the Pemi.

My total distance was 15.5 miles, but wandering around in search of the missing Heath Brook trail section accounted for some of that.
