Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, February 22, 2025
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We spotted a car at the Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary, then drove over to Dedham St side. The pull-off was not doable due to snow so we parked by some park entrance a 1/4mi SE down the road.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Blue, Ice - Breakable Crust, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nothing that didn’t have some sort of bridge I think.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The Warner Trail is usually marked with little disks tacked to trees and occasionally hiker symbols that say Warner Trail. As the guidebook says, it’s marked differently within the Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary but I don’t remember the letter “A” marking it but rather white markers. One mid-sized straddler blowdown along the section that I think was along the bridle path just north of the power lines around Everett St. I don’t think there was signage at most junctions.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I think that dogs are allowed on most parts of Warner Trail but are not allowed within Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary.
Bugs
Bugs: None
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None

Comments
Comments: 1st hike of the day. Got a car spot from mom and dad who were able to do the first part of the hike with me. The snow had an icy coat on it which more or less necessitated spikes. Usually doable when it was flat but if there was an incline, you had to either really stomp down and you were usually still sliding. Note that where the trail leaves Dedham St, it looks like a driveway, but it’s the trail. I don’t think there was a sign. The turn off this road and onto the footpath was quite obscure but just follow the disks/markings. Overall the trail was pretty flat and boring in my opinion but there was one beautiful orchard-esque section that I think the bridle path went through and where I saw the blowdown. Gaia had me at 4.5mi, 375ft of gain, but note that a 1/4mi road walk was added at the beginning along Dedham St.
