I can't believe I paid $30 for this shit...$30 for non-MA plates (the guidebook is outdated) and $8 for in-state visitors. Plenty of room at 4pm. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The Bay Circuit Trail is marked with its usual markings but where the trail doesn't coincide with it, I don't think it was blazed in any way. There are signs at some jcts but not all. Basically just stick to the pond :P I don't recall if there were any blowdowns or not but I can't imagine there was much. |

 | Bugs: |
I don't remember which probably means they weren't bad here like my hike in NH earlier in the day. That being said, I was also moving much quicker and black flies don't seem to be able to keep up like mosquitos can. |

2nd hike of the day after hiking North and South Peak in Whitten Woods in Ashland NH with the folks. This was a long way to drive and a lot of money to pay ($30 to park) for a very short hike that was (and I knew it would be busy but not THAT busy)! Whose stupid idea was this anyway?? Normally, when I ask that, I'm hiking next to a friend, but I truly have no one to blame but myself this time around. I don't recall ground conditions very well but this trail is the type that remains largely dry and drains well I think but I imagine there were still major mud pits given the recent weather. There is construction going on on the east sde of the beach blocking trail access. I hiked the loop counter-clockwise, and just walked back along the road, but realized the beach was still accessible down below (just very narrow) so connected the dots after making a full loop which added some mileage. Given how busy this place is, the water was surprisingly clear. The path is not signed much and there are a couple of "Alt Pond Path" signs that are paths that travel just slightly more inland for a short was. Gaia had me at 2.75mi, 75ft of gain, 53min. |
