 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked a 1/4mi north of the BCT’s crossing of Perry St at the power lines. Room for multiple cars here in the brush. I was the only one. I think I could have parked a bit further up the road by a cemetery instead. Room for several cars at Rocky Narrows Reservation too. It was not busy when I was there. |

|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The BCT is marked with circular disks with the namesake along with white plastic strips and very occasional white blaze. This section seemed to be marked less frequently than others I’ve recently been on. Red and Blue trails are obviously marked with their respective colors and infrequently so. Old, large, stopover with a path around, followed by an old, large widowmaker, in between Rt 27 and Rt 16 just north of Sherborn. Two stepovers immediately south of the western jct of Orange and Red trails in Rocky Narrows. A couple of flooded sections of trails in addition to some very large puddles and very wet sections that should maybe be looked at. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Dogs are allowed and I think can be off-leash at least at Rocky Narrows so long as they are under voice control and such. |
|
 | Bugs: |
They were out but moving quickly they weren’t too awful. Some just in your face and annoying. |

 | Comments: |
This was a hike to finish (most of) Section 13 of the BCT. I parked at the power lines on Perry St, then walked 0.2mi south along the road to where the BCT crosses it. After shamefully going the wrong direction, my proper hike truly began! There are a number of awkward turns east of Brush Hill with the mountain bike trails so I’d carefully watch the markers for arrows underneath which can be easy to miss. East of Rt 27, there are some extremely muddy and wet spots, some of which have had some bog bridges built on them (Red Trail in Rocky Narrows), others of which have nothing. These are along old roads. Also note that 0.4mi into the southern half of the Red Loop and extending for 0.3mi (I came at it from the other side) the trail is totally flooded. There’s also a much smaller section (but still of at least a few dozen feet) of flooded trail along the western side of the canoe launch. This is just a couple hundred feet east of its western end. Though the guidebook mentions nothing of this and there’s nothing blocking the trail here or indication that it’s closed, the online guide of the BCT does mention that the trail can be flooded and suggests an alternate route. Highlight was King Phililip’s Overlook which was quite scenic (I only wish it were a bit more open)! I had a Lyft pick me up at Rocky Narrows after redlining the section of the BCT that goes through here and Red and Blue trails. I still need to walk the BCT to Charles River to finish Section 13. Gaia had me at 10.2mi, 600ft of gain, 3.5hrs. |
