Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Only a few minor stream crossings on this route- all either bridged or easy rock steps.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in excellent shape, well-blazed, and easy to follow. Only exception would be Old Adams Rd., where the 0.8 miles closest to the AT (heading towards Jones Nose) had extensive areas of deep mud, ruts, and standing water. Plenty of bog bridges on potentially wet sections of the AT. Sign on Woodason Spring Trail near the junction of the Rounds Rock Trail stated: "View 5 mi". That would have been intensely discouraging- I think it meant 5 minutes to the Rounds Rock outlooks, even if it was really more like 8. :)
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: These trails would all be suitable for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: Moderate; used repellent early in the day, and they were no longer an issue.

Comments
Comments: Started at the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail lot in Cheshire, picked up the AT north, and followed it to Old Adams Rd. for a detour loop including Rounds Rock and Jones Nose before attaining the summit of Greylock. Stayed on the AT south for the entire trip back. The open fields between Route 8 and Outlook Ave. were quite scenic with wildflowers and spring hues. Saw the Rounds Rock outlooks for the first time- decent and worth visiting if in the area. The unexpected scenery highlight- aside from the beautiful summit which was in the clear- was the meadow just above the Jones Nose trailhead. There were a few wet areas of trail, especially at lower elevations, but overall conditions were surprisingly good. Plenty of helpful bog bridges on the AT between Cheshire and Mt. Greylock. The first 0.8 miles of Old Adams Rd. from the AT toward the Jones Nose trailhead was unpleasant due to abundant mud and standing water, but might be better later in the season.
