Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Spotted a car at the Cow Tunnel, 3 other cars there already but we found a place to pull off the road OK. At the starting end we parked at a friend's house in Oxford who lives just off the trail.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nothing difficult.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail is mostly road through this section. Parts of it that are real trail are in good condition. My last time through in 2009 there was a place in Charlton where the lack of yellow triangles caused some confusion, but this has been rectified. Thanks.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Met a friendly old dog as we passed by his house.
Bugs
Bugs: TICKS!!! They are early this year (it was still winter!) I found 6 on me, and the other 3 members of our party all had at least one. The word I got is that this is a bad year for ticks due to the heavy acorn crop in 2010, resulting in a healthy mouse population through the winter of 2010-2011, causing a healthy hatching of ticks in 2011, and a bumper crop of tick nymphs this year. These nymphs are looking for blood. I found that wearing light-colored pants helped me locate the ticks right away. My next time out I will add some DEET and my insect repellent gaiters.

Comments
Comments: The third section of our Midstate trail trek with the wives. Mr and Mrs Snapsquatch and Mr and Mrs Great Oz. We went from Brown Road in Oxford to the Cow Tunnel in Charlton, about 7 miles. The book calls it about 9 miles but I think they have eliminated a big loop that used to go south and then north from Rocky Hill road. The trail now goes straight through by the gravel pit.
