Such a beautiful hike following the fresh snow fall. We were lucky and the trails were broken out by eager skiers wanting to test their skills on the steep Thunderbolt Trail. My friend and I hiked a loop up the Bellows Pipe trail to the AT up to the peak and then down via the Gould Trail. It snowed almost the entire day, a light snow with little accumulation. We wore snowshoes on the entire hike. There were patches of ice beneath a few inches of new snow on parts of the route down low and somewhat consolidated snow higher up. We passed one couple wearing spikes who stated they wished they had worn snowshoes. We broke trail on the spur to the Pecks Shelter and falls. |
