Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The road was snow covered but plowed and should be drivabe for any car. Make sure you enter the way the guidebook describes if you're doing this hike in winter. There's other ways to access the trailhead, but those roads are closed partway in during winter, so I had to do a bunch of driving around as my GPS tried to take me in those ways.

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A leaner and several stepovers on the north side of Soapstone Mtn. Nothing too cumbersome. Some were large. I don't recall the trails being marked, other than the occasional blue marker on Gorge Trail as the guidbeook describes, but I could be wrong. They're shown on Gaia and not hard to follow, though.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: None seen, but sure
Bugs
Bugs: I saw what looked like a mosquito on the summit of Soapstone Hill!? It was a warmer day...
Lost and Found

Comments
Comments: I hiked this loop in the reverse direction that the guidebook describes. Ascending Soapstone Hill from the north side was very gentle, unlike the south side, which was steeper. I did the OAB on the "side path on the right that leads to the campground" (except it was on my left since I was ascending this way), which is unmarked but shown on Gaia. Descending Soapstone Hill, there was one nice blue ice bulge that, rather than put on spikes for, I just got down on my butt and slid down. Beyond this, I don't think there was a need for spikes at the time. Gorge Trail ascends gently back to the woods road and there was some cool views of the gorge, which I feel like the guidebook underplayed. Gaia had me at 3.75mi, 500ft of gain, 1hr32min.
