Comments
Comments: williams pond road was hard packed by snowmobiles, skis, sleds, etc. starting to melt out in a couple spots as well as a few icy patches. tote road was much the same. marston trail was packed hard to mount coe junction then looser to north brother. lots of branch banging as the snow depth has you up high in the tree canopies and they are not brushed for winter travel. the trip over to fort was just awesome with line of sight navigation and firm snow allowing travel almost anywhere. only push through two thick spots the whole way. despite the hard snow i did manage to find one very deep spruce trap.....the trail to mt. coe was packed out and solid again with a fair amount of pushing through fir/spruce along the way. one short bit of ice just below the summit. a looser track led up to south brother which fills in so nicely in winter. we wore microspikes along the road and part way up marston then snowshoes to the summits.
an awesome couple of days in baxter. stayed in the nesowadnehunk cabin which was as cozy as i remembered it. the cold temps kept the snow firm making for amazing walking conditions. summit day was a mix of sun and clouds to start then cleared off completely in the afternoon with awesome views to kathadin and all of the surrounding peaks. a big thanks to the delaware crew for an awesome trip.
